Why is it so difficult to count??

During the past few months I have heard a lot of discussion about all the empty store front on Main Street. The number ranges from a few to as many as 20. Mary Jo of the Alliance has a very low count where as most everyone else has had a high count. We only have a few blocks to count so why the big discrepancy?

Can Parking Enforcement People Multitask?

The Parking Enforcers walk back and forth through the downtown area all day long. I am sure they could tell a lot of stories about illegal activity from the drug dealers and prostitutes not to mention drunken disorderly scenes. Has anyone considered the benefit to the town if they would act as watchdogs for the cops and report their observations. Maybe if they were more proactive it would encourage the dealers and prostitutes to move their business elsewhere.

Singles and Cheap Vodka on Vacation

Today a calm, serenity hit downtown Elkton. Jimmy from North Street has left for a five week vacation and that means no booze sales to the local homeless community and downtown drunks. There were a lot of sad drunks this morning gathered around the store but alas, the neon lights remain dimmed. If the commissioners would pass an ordinance prohibiting the sale of singles in the downtown area we could enjoy this tranquility year round. Maybe then businesses would start to repopulate all the empty storefronts and people could once again feel safe walking the streets of the downtown.

To Park or not to Park

What is up with Elkton and these parking tickets. The tickets are $25 for exceeding two hour parking. If I went to a store or restaurant and came out to a ticket, I would think twice before going back to Elkton. All this talk about finding ways to bring people to the downtown area to help the businesses, then the town pursues a way to make sure people don't stay in Elkton more than 2 hours. I would be interested in knowing how much income the town makes on the tickets.
